The story begins with Meggie's father, Mo, reading aloud from a book called Inkheart, written by a medieval author named Fenoglio (Billy Connolly). Unbeknownst to Mo, he inadvertently brings three characters from the book to life: Capricorn (Andy Serkis), a ruthless and cunning villain; Dustfinger (Brendan Fraser), a fire-juggler; and Basta (Marton Csokas), a brutal and loyal henchman.
As Meggie learns about her father's past and his connection to the book, she embarks on a thrilling adventure to rescue him from the clutches of Capricorn and his followers. Along the way, she teams up with Farid (Kunal Nayyar), a young boy who helps her on her quest.
Inkheart tells the story of Meggie Folchart (Eliza Bennett), a young girl who discovers that her father, Mo "Silvertongue" Folchart (Geoffrey Rush), has a extraordinary gift – when he reads aloud from a book, characters and objects from the story come to life in the real world. However, this gift comes with a terrible price: whenever a character is brought to life, someone or something from the real world is pulled into the book, never to return.
